Largely because of Ella’s history of ear infections, we are going to some specialists tomorrow to determine if Ella’s where she should be in terms of language development. You all know she’s signing up a storm and otherwise making herself understood, but that she doesn’t have that many words. Or so we thought. They asked us to make a list of all the words–or word approximations–that she is using, and it was longer than we thought.
Here’s the stuff that we (and our neighbors) hear Ella say: duck, more, bubbles, hi, bye-bye, dog, mama, daddy, bus, car, Sasha, agua (but not water), all done, airplane, sheep (baa), cow (moo), bee (bzzzzzzz), yum, yes, no, uh-oh, diaper, bottom, up, down, apple, ashes, and dip.

ashes? Weird word for a kid. Especially between apple and dip.
She says ashes when she wants to sing the song “Ring Around the Rosey”… so it’s less weird than it otherwise could be.
