Hi From San Fran

As a complement to Andrew’s posts from the home front, I thought I’d post a quick update from San Francisco.

I arrived late Wednesday with two of my colleagues. I spent the first flight in the comfort of first class, and then spent the second (long) flight sitting next to a man who smelled like old socks. It was spectacularly bad, but at least I got to nap for an hour or two.

After getting into town, we went to a late dinner at Flour+Water (yum) and then got up Thursday and did some touristy stuff in the morning. The highlight: going on a Go Car tour and stopping at the Buena Vista Cafe for an Irish coffee. (Pictures will be posted soon!) Later, we tested out the equipment in the multimedia room where we’ll be doing our presentation, and then primped for the opening reception (good food+open bar=lots of drunk journalists).

Today, we attended sessions all day and then had a meeting with folks at a young, promising company based here in San Francisco. After a few drinks (thanks, guys!), we wandered around a bit and then ate a great dinner at Delfina. (My favorite was the gnocchi–and, of course, the huge bowl of zucchini-squash risotto they gave us for free.) We headed back to the hotel, where it appears to have been taken over by 20 year old girls wearing sky-high gladiator heels and teeny dresses. (The young’uns were in town for the Cal-USC game.)

Tomorrow, we’ll go to more sessions and then give our presentation at 2:30 PT. Then we’ll probably eat more.
