I was in San Fran for the Online News Association conference, and I am finally digging out my notes and thinking about the trip… and all the fantastic food we ate!
Here’s a recap of all the good stuff I consumed:
Day 1 (Wed.): An exhausted USNews contingent was thrilled to get a table at Flour+Water, a new restaurant. We ate a delicious mushroom pasta, a grilled eggplant appetizer, and a small pizza.
Day 2 (Thurs.): Houston, Tiffany (of Seattle Times fame) and I ate breakfast at Dottie’s True Blue Cafe. Jalapeno cornbread and black bean cakes with fresh salsa made our morning. It was worth the 30ish minute wait. Read a review.
Day 3 (Fri.): After having lunch at the conference with Leo Laporte, Houston and I ate dinner at Delfina. We had risotto, pasta, and other tasty vittles.
Day 4 (Sat.): I had an incredibly delicious tofu sandwich (bahn mi) for lunch at Saigon Sandwich. Here’s a review. After our presentation, I met my friend Shona–who I’ve known since elementary school and haven’t seen since 10th grade or so!–for some snacks and drinks at a wine bar called First Crush. The cheese plate was delish! Then the USNewsers ate dinner at B*Star. (Its related restaurant, Burma Superstar, is supposed to be even more fantastic–but we couldn’t get a table. Try the tea leaf salad and the lotus chips–an addictive bar-type snack.)
Day 5 (Sun.): Before heading to the airport, we ate breakfast at Honey Honey Craperie. The hot cider was fantastic.
To bring us back to culinary reality, we ate at Chili’s in the Milwaukee Airport on our way back to DCA. Good times.
